COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, IKERE-EKITI

College staff benefit from tetfund ict programme

Seventy-seven members of staff of College of Education Ikere-Ekiti have benefited from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) ICT SUPPORT INTERVENTION programme.
The week long training held at the College Computer Resource Centre, according to the Executive Secretary of TETFUND, Professor Sulaiman Bogoro, was geared towards improving ICT in the tertiary education system of the country especially in the areas of research and development.
Professor Bogoro who was represented at the training said the College of Education Ikere-Ekiti was chosen as one of the beneficiaries of the ICT training as part of the drive for improved public tertiary education system which was borne out of his administration’s concern that majority of the Nigerian students were in the public tertiary institutions.
He said “majority of students in Nigerian Colleges of Education, Polytechnics and Universities are in public tertiary institution. In terms of number, the Public tertiary institutions have about equal number with the private but in terms of population you can imagine; it is 94 per cent for public.
The training with the theme International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) Base Module and Intermediate Module was handled by Sharon Interactive Technologies Limited, Abuja, Nigeria.
The Provost of the College, Professor Olufemi Adeoluwa while declaring the training open charged the participants to take advantage of the training to widen their ICT skills stressing that when teachers are digitally literate and trained it would help to expand their horizon in digital world.
The Provost said equipping staff with sound ICT knowledge became necessary as the country needed to shift focus from resource-based economy to knowledge-based economy.
He said “In the 21st century when knowledge economy has taken over from resource-based economy, we cannot lose focus on the fact that there are some elements that drive this knowledge. In the era of knowledge economy, ICT is actually the driver. That is the relevance of ICT and digitalization,”
He lauded TETFUND for its efforts at fast tracking the education system and actualize the aims and objective government at building the knowledge economy.
